Hi everyone. I wanted to take this chance to thank you for becoming a member of or visiting The Podcasters Studio Forum. I created this forum as a resource for podcasters who have questions about anything related to podcasting.

This forum will allow us to get potential feedback from the entire TPS community thus providing deeper and richer answers than I can supply on my own (you can still expect me to chime in on each topic;)).

This forum is also a great vehicle for discussion. Because you will be notified (if desired) when someone has replied to your comment or question, the discussion keeps going without the need to monitor it. The discussion comes to you and not the other way around, the way it should be.

I look forward to everybody's feedback and insight and I'll see you around the forums, on twitter.com/PodcastHelper, facebook.com/PodcastHelper and wherever else we meet;)

Thanks,

Ray

Hello everyone.

I'm a podcaster from Northern Ireland trying to make tolerable audio for people to be entertained by. The Vodka for Breakfast Podcast is done almost entirely by myself, with an ever-changing co-host spot. It's only been online since October 2010, so there's problems you'd expect with a young podcast. I hope it's enjoyed anyway.

Hi guys! I am not podcasting yet, but have spent the past year or so building a little resources site for children's ministry workers. Podcasting will follow, hopefully in 2011.

In the meantime, the blog is at http://effectivechildrensministry.org

Can I say a big thanks to you, Ray? I have a feeling that this forum will soon be THE place to come for newbies like me. I love your podcast and am learning a lot. Just want you to know that the effort and time you put into that, and also to answering our queries here, are much appreciated.

Hi everybody! I've been a podcaster for about 3 years. I did a comedy/music podcast call "Loud and Proud". At the high point about 1 year ago we had 2300 subscribers. (I dont consider them to be real subscribers because I didnt have a reliable way of tracking the stats. So it was prolly closer to 200-300). It was on 3 different internet radio stations and even spun into it's own radio station for a very short while. I quit doing it because it got to be too much for me and was headed in the wrong direction from me (the content started turning into a Howard Stern type, not what I wanted.)

I love podcasts so much that I cant stand to listen to broadcast radio for any longer than it takes for the news breaks. The music they play all sound the same and talk radio is starting to get boring. I have to listen to the radio all day because I am a local truck driver and podcasts have been a godsend to me.

In January of 2011 I wanted to start a new show because I still have the bug to podcast. So I thought I would start one about things and people that interest me. But that isnt going to be a narrow enough niche. So I am going to narrow it down a little more and do a show about other podcasts and their hosts. I want to know and also think that are people interested in knowing more about the hosts of the podcasts they listen too. I want to know things like their equipment, their work flow and is the dog/cat in the studio with them? What do they do to make themselves comfortable when recording an important episode? Are they planning on making money and how to do it? How long do they plan on running a show before they start another? And much, much more.

If you are doing a podcast or know of someone you would like me check out let me know a url and I will check it out. If I like it I will hit you up for an interview. ryan{at}ryans top shelf {dot} com. Just remove the brackets and spaces.

Hello everyone!

I'm Martin, I'm very new to producing a podcast, though I've been listening to podcasts for some time. The Podcasters' Studio podcast has given me a lot more enthusiasm to get on with it, rather than daydreaming about it. I'm at the stage of getting the equipment together and starting to plan content and think about style. My podcast doesn't have a name yet, but it will be about reviewing B-movies (in particular so-bad-they're-good movies). As soon as it goes live, I'll be very happy to receive feedback or suggestions anybody on this forum. Looking forward to learning lots more. Cheers!

Hiyer!  We're Soph and Bren, collectively known as This Reality Podcast, a weekly music-based entertainment/chat show. We're usually based in Oxfordshire in the UK, though we do travel significantly.

It'll be our third birthday at the beginning of March, and we're looking for ideas to help get our listenership pushed over the 200,000/per show figure. We have been stuck at 186,214 (+/- 20) for the last six months, which is quite frustrating.

Anyway, a bit about us.  We don't do post-prod edits and, except for the playlist, we're unscripted.  These things mean that we don't spend time polishing our product; our guests, whether they're in the studio or on the phone, get excactly the same experience that our listeners do.

And that's us really.

Cheers,

S&B.

Hello. I've been doing a podcast for about 2½ years. I do a Christian (Reformed) Theological podcast, one per month, about an hour each +/-, always interviewing a different guest about various theological topics.

I started out not knowing if it would be something I'd try and give up on quickly, or would keep doing. I just posted episode 33, and see no end in sight!

Until recently I was very much self-taught. I had Daniel Lewis of "The Audacity to Podcast" answer an Audacity quesstion I asked on Twitter, and that introduced me to not only him, but Cliff Ravenscraft and Ray, and I've been appreciating all that I've learned from all of you guys on how to put together much better audio.

Just recently I upgraded my mixer to a Mackie Onyx 820i (from a Behringer Xenyx 802), added a Behringer Multicom MDX 4600, and got an Edirol R-09hr Digital Audio Recorder after nearly losing an interview when Audacity crashed on me after hitting "stop" but before being able to save. I had to record two more on Audacity before getting the Edirol, but feel much better now that I have a dedicated recorder.

I am joining the forum hoping to both learn more about how to do a better podcast, and help others by passing on what I've learned over the last 2½ years.

I'm Tim Flaherty, a local TV producer in St. Mary's county, MD.  I have been interested in podcasting since 2007 when podcasting guru Rich Harrington gave a talk on it at an ITVA (now TIVA-DC) meeting at Henninger Media.  I have tons of content I would like to repurpose via podcasting, and also would like to use the medium for new content.  My own crazy work schedule, procastination and perhaps "fear of committment" have kept me from launching anything.  However, getting back with the DC Podcaster Alliance  meetings and finding this forum have re-energized my resolve.

I am very involved the the Southern Maryland Sailing Association in Solomons, MD and have been its Publicity Chairman for the past several years.  I think my first podcast project may be to launch a "Sailing in Southern Mayland" show to both help promote SMSA and also to provide myself a lab to hone my podcasting skills.

Many thanks to Ray for creating this site and being a pocasting advocate!  I look forward to being a part of this community!

I'm Allan Newsome and I'm the host of the Two Chairs No Waiting – Andy Griffith Show Fan Podcast.  The show is about "The Andy Griffith Show" and all things Mayberry.  Episodes
contain interviews, listener feedback and loads of Mayberry fun. http://TwoChairsNoWaiting.com/

I've been podcasting since October 2008 but I've been running the iMayberry.com website for The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club since 1993.  The site is THE place on the web to travel for information about The Andy Griffith Show.

I know…the living in Mayberry should be easy and slow and this computer stuff is fast but even in Mayberry, folks listened to the radio.

iMayberry.com has had cast interviews online since the 1990’s so I felt it was time to join the world of podcasting and get those "Real Audio" formated audio interviews changed over to mp3 files for folks to enjoy.  I planned to do about a year of episodes but I've been doing weekly shows and see no end in sight.

I've listened to Cliff, Dave Jackson, Daniel Lewis, Podcasting for Dummies, and (of course) Ray to learn how to do a podcast.

Recently I started adding a video version of episodes to my site so folks can either listen or watch BUT Two Chairs No Waiting is an audio show that happens to have video. If folks don't watch the video, I don't want them to feel left out so I work to make sure they aren't.  The video does add some things but nothing that my listeners can't see for themselves if they visit the links I provide or visit our Facebook fan page.

Well, that's me.  I'm glad to meet all of you.

I'm Mediacast Guy (where did my mother come up with a name like that?), and I have been in the radio and recording business for many years. My main interests are audio and recording gear. As strange as it may seem, I collect microphones. My brother and I own a small recording studio for fun.

As far as my expertise goes, I have built radio stations and recording studios from the ground up. In a former life, I was an electronics design engineer. Now, electronics is my hobby. That's why I'm here. If I can help in any way, I'm glad to do so.

A friend has a call-in radio show that he is moving to the Internet. Over the last few months, I've worked with him to get his studio configured (microphones, mixer, telephone hybrid, Google Voice computer, Skype computer). He did his first glitch-free broadcast last week, so hopefully he's on the road to success.

Hey everybody, my name is Froid and I do the technical work and recording aswell as host my show called nofamouspeople with my co-host Ozzy. It's got no real premise but it's pure cnoversation which I feel is a lost art. I like to hear about different setups because recording and podcasting is starting to take a more prevelent role in my life, Im also starting another mma themed podcast but I will playing tech guy for the most part.

Hey there. I would like to say that it is great to be a new member. I host and produce "The Vibe and Vegas Show" at http://thevibeandvegasshow.wor…..press.com/. The show has been on air for about four and half years. The “Vibe and Vegas Show” is a podcast where we discuss, debate, share and sometimes laugh about various subjects
from a Black Canadian man point of view. Our goal is to stimulate
thought and discussion so that Black Canadian men and those that care
about them can work, share and grow together. The show has been nominated in two categories (Best International Blog and Best Podcast Series) for this year's Black Weblog Awards.

I have been a fan of "The Podcasters Studio" for a few years. In fact, my first conversation with Ray was a game changer for the podcast and blog.

I look forward to being part of, sharing and helping this community where I can.

Be well,

Dr. Vibe

Hello everyone. I'm Kevin Mulryne from Stratford-upon-Avon, UK. I have been planning to start podcasting for a very long time and am almost ready to take the plunge with 2 new shows very soon. I did do a few casts while I was researching Twitter and online identity which I even submitted to iTunes but that was a very short-lived experiment.

My 2 new shows are going to be:

  • An interview podcast featuring teachers' favourite classroom technology
  • A solo podcast about my favourite progressive rock band, Yes

So very different from each other!

I have been listening to Ray's podcasts as well as several others and am currently taking part in the Free Podcast Bootcamp – http://www.freepodcastbootcamp.com run by Dave Jackson.

So, why has it taken me so long to get started? Well, I'm nervous about the amount of time it's going to eat up and the fact that once I start, I won't want to/won't be able to stop! This has been compounded by work and life stuff as well.

However, I am hopefully going to take the plunge when I return from holiday mid-September, so watch out for the episodes!

I'd like to thank Ray for all his help and support, via Twitter and the great shows. I don't think I'd be finally ready to go if it wasn't for him.

Kevin

Good morning/Boujour/Goedemorgen, I'm Kate, I live in Belgium, and I'm waiting for iTunes to approve my podcast. I've made 5 episodes, talking about forgotten books, on http://www.reallylikethisbook.com, because I talk about books for a living (I teach Eng lit). But although the writing is easy, the recording is a terrible nightmare. I need technical help, bigtime, mainly with the actual recording. I don't know what I did right for the last 5 epidodes, but now I can't get it right at all, and I've GOT to get it right to keep the episodes coming. Oh dear oh dear … I'll post the precise details in the main Forum, so if you think you can help, please look for me there.

Hi  I am Darla, and I host Scientific Quilter, I look forward to discussing one major area of podcasting with all of you that is crafting-related podcasting.  I feel this brings up different areas of focus than what has been already covered with the tech stuff that is already here.  I'm not going to talk crafts with this crowd, but a few different issues arises when you have 3-4 hobbies linked together in 1. (crafting, photographing, blogging, podcasting).  I have heard that podcasters & bloggers are two sides of a different coin, but it's really fun to include it all.  But that means a TON of time.  I'm also here to gain help with speaking problems I mentioned on another post, and someday, I may actually use the programs to make things sound better instantly w/o committing so much time.

I am probably the example of 'what not to do' technically – I have a USB mic (a very good one in my opinion), NO mixer (do they make mixers that you could plug in USB?), use a 'pod distributer' (podbean & have been w/ them for 2 years), use a wordpress.com site, don't use feedburner. … don't have a consistent schedule.

One thing I probably have done right (to a degree), is that I've been trying to keep in contact with my audience in a small forum of similar quilting podcasts.  We had invited every person who has produced a podcast about our topic to a forum on BIG TENT, and active, yes, but only by a few of us. It's been a good way to get in touch with others.

One thing I also want to work on, is not to be so upset when other podcasts in my niche are more successful (more listeners & subscribers, more feedback & emails — some of the others read off how many people wrote to them right on the podcast).  I know my spin on my topic is ultra-niche (science math & quilting), but I also suspect I put people off with my delivery of my ideas.

I keep trying to tell myself after 2 years that it's not about the popularity, it's about the quality of interactions, but I seem to also be behind in that too.

Oh and I write a long post all the time, hope you don't mind.

Hey there folks,

Just thought I'd pop a quick mesage to introduce myself.

I'm a Science Teacher by trade, miniature wargamer by hobby,  and as a result of this I have been convinced by a friend (and now co-host.) to start a podcast realted to the Wargame that we play.

Anyway I think I've got a reasonable level fo ability when it comes to IT realted stuff.  I used to build my own PC's when it was cheaper to do so and I've built a couple of Websites, having taught myself some basic HTML. So with my co-host being a technical luddite I've ended up with all the production and technical stuff to do.  Which I am quite enjoying!

However there are things that I think that I'll need some help with and so I find myself here.  I followed a You Tube video to the podcast through iTunes and from the podcast to the Forums.  So thanks for prodcing the show Ray, I know it's been really useful so far and I enjoy listening.

So "Hi" and I best go and find the sections that will fit the questions I've got.

Many thanks,

Rich
