Hello,

First off thanks for the great site and vid tutorials, already helped me massively setting up mpodcast.

So I started a podcast on my already established f1 blog : backmarkersf1.wordpress.com. I bought the space upgrade so I could put the mp3s directly on wordpress and it's working like a charm. Also set up an RSS feed using that mp3 and got it on itunes.

So far so good! (and all thx to your vid tutorials)

Here's my question: how do I track the amount of downloads my podcast has had? Using feedburner, I can see the nr. of subscribers on itunes, but even that doesn't make much sense. I see the subs broken up on day/day basis but don't seem to find where it gives me the total number of subscribers. I'm doubting whether I just need to add up amount of subs each day, or does the day by day number show the total subs – which would mean I lose some subs some days, then gain some. Also, not everybody subscribes right away I would imagine, so how can i see the individual amount of downloads on itunes?

2nd part, how can I track the amount of dls of the mp3 on my wordpress blog itself – ie those people not passing via itunes. I see the amount of 'clicks' on the mp3 on the wordpress dashboard, but does that include people right clicking and saving the mp3? I would think this merely tracks the amount of people clicking the link and listening to it in their browser, not those saving the mp3. If that is the case, how can I track the nr of times someone dl'd the podcast?

thanks for the help, hope you can enlighten me even further :)

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the kind words.

I'm glad to hear the site is helping.

Have you listened to episode 26 of The Podcasters Studio? http://thepodcastersstudio.com…..tatistics/

If you click on the player and scroll to about -30:10 you hear me talk about how feedburner stats work and why the numbers fluctuate so much. In fact the whole episode is about stats and will probably address some of your other questions as well.

The key to stats is having a host that supply them for you. And this is one of the big reason to have paid hosting for you podcast files. However there are a few other options like Podtrac and Blubrry stats (which I didn't mention in the episode). Look into those if your hosting isn't giving you good stats. People who download from your site will be counted by your stats provider when you get one.

Hope that helps.

Ray
