On this episode of The Podcasters Studio I talk about Creative Commons Licensing, what it is, why you want to use it as a podcaster, and how to use it.

Also I talk about some of my favorite free resources that I use to produce my podcast and as a result of Creative Commons you’ll benefit from these resources as well.

music used for this episode: 37hz “Spiral Song”, Adam Woodall Band “Runaway”,  3ce “Outside-Inside” – All songs are licensed via CC license and found at music.podshow.com.

  1. Do you know what the deal is about using music that isn't on CreativeCommons? I think I remember that people are allowed to use a limited number of seconds or minutes for free without breaking copywrite…. do you know anything about that?

Thanks again for a great podcast.

    • People always want to know the answer to that one and unfortunately I don't believe it's very clear. Yes you always hear that you can use 10, 20, 30 secs without being in trouble under the guidelines of fair use. However I just recommend to everyone that they should not bother…There is so much good, free music out there that it doesn't really make sense to "risk" it or bother with the worry. That said, its up to you. Personally I avoid it just to save the pain and I like to give indy artist some exposure. All this might not be a problem but then your podcast becomes big time and it becomes recognized and then it could be a problem because as I mentioned, the rules are unclear. And once you release the episode into the wild, its gone, you cannot go back and fix it later once you receive your cease and desist letter;)
