Learn how to use multiple audio sources with Ustream. Usually in order to record more than one audio source (ie your mic) you would need an expensive mixer. Learn how to use a cheap piece of software to include sources such as music and sound fx into your live stream bypassing the need for a mixer and upgrading the production value of your show.

HI there! Do you have any information for mic-ing a meeting on Ustream? There are usually 10 people who contribute to the conversation and it is awkward to pass around directional mics. Is there a better solution? What type of mics? Thanks so much for any advice you can give
Hi Michelle,
The most obvious answer would be for everyone to have their own mic. After that, a mic that has an omnidirectional polar pattern might work OK for pairs of people. This type of mic pics up audio from all directions.
You could also get a couple of shotgun mics and put them on boom poles overhead two groups of three or four people if the pattern of the mic is omnidirectional or cardioid at the very least. For each solution you'll need a mixer (something to feed all the mics into that will output one signal for Ustream. You don't need an expensive one necessarily, you just need one with enough connections to match the number of mics you end up with.
There is also a type of mic called a Boundary microphone which are used at conferences and stage performances to pick up many people. I haven't used this type of mic but it might work in your situation if you have people sitting around a table http://podhelp.me/wyc3PQ (affiliate link).
I'm going to ask a friend (Mike Philips) with a much broader knowledge about microphones to chime in on this as well.
Michelle, you didn't say what your budget is. Plus, are the 10 people sitting around a conference table? Ray's answers are, of course, exactly right, but the right choice will depend on the arrangement of the participants.
