Soundation Adds Audio Recording and Editing to G+ Hangouts and Hangouts On-Air

UPDATE: Soundation is limited to a ten minute record time which essentially makes this unusable for podcasting. I’m talking with the devs to see if there is a solution moving forward for podcasters. Stay tuned.

Soundation is a new Add-on for Hangouts and Hangouts On-Air that lets you record audio inside a Hangout. Why is that so cool? Cause you can produce a high quality podcast with separate channels of audio for post production all inside the wonderful UI of Hangouts/HOA.soundation

It’s essentially an easy system for doing double-ender recordings with anyone in a Hangout!

BOTTOM LINE: This workflow is not for the average podcaster but for those who are trying to get the top quality productions, G+ now gives you the ability to produce a high quality, fully featured podcast (720p video, .wav audio, all live-streamed) wow.

I might sound a little more excited than reasonable but that’s because this is something I’ve been wanting to see for awhile now; so much so that I almost had it created on my own. I’m excited someone built it and built it well.

Here’s my walkthrough video showing how I will use this for the production of one of my shows, Podcasters’ Roundtable.

PQT – Mixlr.com. Audio Only Live Streaming

An introduction to mixlr.com, a new live streaming dedicated to the audio only podcaster. With mixlr’s easy to use app, available for both Windows and Mac, you can easily stream your show live to the web while you record it in your studio.

The advantages to live streaming audio only are many in the case of mixlr. Of primary interest to every podcaster should be mixlr’s ability to put your show live into the hands of anyone, anywhere. Mixlr’s live streams can be played on any mobile device with a browser effectively allowing your audience to listen live in the car, at the gym, or just waiting in line. Essentially anywhere your audience is, your show can be too.

Also, streaming audio only allows for your computer to use much less computing power and is much easier on your bandwidth.

For a much more in depth review of mixlr and it’s features which include great embed players for your website and facebook page, check out The Podcasters Studio Episode 048.

Change the Number of Feed Items In WordPress to Display All Your Episodes on iTunes

If you are having an issue with iTunes, or any other podcatcher, only showing your most recent ten (10) or less episodes and you are using WordPress to feed your podcast, this is the fix for you.

Even if you are also using feedburner, changing this simple setting will allow more episodes to appear in your RSS feed and thus on iTunes, Zune, Miro, etc.

This fix works for both WordPress.com and people who have their own installation of WordPress on their own server.
